South Central Railway (SCR) continues to prioritize the strengthening of its rail network and infrastructure development. In the previous financial year, SCR achieved remarkable milestones, completing around 39 kms of new lines, 54 kms of gauge conversion, 133 kms of double lines, and 190 kms of third line works. These accomplishments represent the highest-ever track addition in a single financial year since the inception of the zone.

Commitment to Enhance Connectivity

The key to SCR’s success lies in its meticulous attention to timely commissioning of rail lines, coupled with effective planning and execution. The construction and commissioning of new lines, gauge conversion, double lines, and third lines have collectively added 416 kilometres to the rail network during the fiscal year 2023-24. This achievement underscores SCR’s commitment to advancing railway infrastructure and enhancing connectivity.

Some Important Projects

Significant milestones were achieved in the previous financial year across various projects. Within the ambit of new lines, 39 kilometres were completed. This includes the 11-kilometre stretch between Duddeda and Siddipet as part of the Manoharabad-Kothapalli new line project in Telangana, and the 28-kilometre stretch between Gundlakamma and Darsi as part of the Nadikudi-Srikalahasti project in Andhra Pradesh.

In terms of gauge conversion, a crucial 54-kilometre stretch between Amlakhurd and Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh was completed as part of the Akola-Khandwa gauge conversion project.

Notable progress was made in doubling lines, with 133 kilometres being completed. This includes 5 kilometres for the Vijayawada bypass line and 107 kilometres across various sections as part of the Guntur-Guntakal doubling project.

These projects have not only brought new areas onto the railway map for the first time but have also enhanced the capacity of existing lines through the expansion of rail lines. SCR’s focused approach and commitment to advancing railway infrastructure have yielded remarkable results, propelling the zone to unprecedented heights in the fiscal year 2023-24.

SCR’s dedication to enhancing connectivity and expanding its rail network demonstrates its commitment to providing efficient and reliable transportation services. The addition of 416 kilometres of track in a single financial year is a testament to the hard work and determination of SCR’s team. With continued efforts, SCR will continue to play a pivotal role in the development of the region’s transportation infrastructure.
