Announcement of Lok Sabha Election 2024 Dates

The Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar, along with the Election Commission of India (ECI), held a press meeting to announce the dates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024. The general election for the 543 Lok Sabha seats will be conducted in seven phases, starting from April 19. The counting of votes will take place on June 4.

New Election Commissioners Appointed

The announcement of the Lok Sabha election dates comes just two days after the appointment of two new Election Commissioners – Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu. These appointments were made following the surprise resignation of Arun Goel and the retirement of Anup Chandra Pandey on February 14.

Model Code of Conduct

With the announcement of the Lok Sabha election dates in 2024, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) will come into effect. This means that political parties, candidates, and the government must adhere to the guidelines set by the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding their speeches, announcements, election manifestos, and other activities.

The Lok Sabha elections are a crucial event in our democratic process, giving citizens the opportunity to elect their representatives. The phased approach ensures a smooth and organized election process across the country. As the election dates draw closer, it is important for all stakeholders to follow the rules and regulations set by the ECI to ensure a fair and transparent election.
